Original, vintage gilded and silvered metal and bullion embroidered British Army - Air Observation Posts Cap- AOP`s Badge Wing - Insignia
Measurements of the badge are 100 x 43 mm.
AOP's were artillery officers trained as pilots to observe enemy positions.
During WW2 16 squadrons were raised: 12 British, 1 Polish and 3 Canadian. After the war (in 1957) the remains of the glider pilot regiment and AOP were joined in the Army Air Corps.
Some AOP's served as glider pilots during operation Varsity to cover the massive losses from Market Garden.
These AOP wings didn't come into existance until 1948 so they are post-WW2 badges
