Original Finland  WW II pattern Civil Guard sleeve patch Helsinki district

The patch is  in unused condition.

After the Finnish Civil War, a Civil Guard symbol for everyday use was designed.

The artist Joseph Alanen drew a shield that had the letter S on the bottom and the three branched spruce spray on the top.

This design was intended as symbol of commemoration for the capture of Tampere in 1918.

In the beginning there were 11 different types of these shields, but as more and more regions were formed, in 1943 there were 19.
